Haleigh Cummings Disappearance: The 911 Call

By:  J.F.  Dunlap

Date:  October 28, 2009

Haleigh Cummings is a beautiful, 6 year old girl who disappeared from her home in Satsuma, Florida in the early hours of February 10, 2009.  Her family is hoping to have her safely returned home soon.  Should you have any information regarding Haleigh Cummings, please contact either of the following:  Putnam County Sheriff’s Office at 386-329-0800, Crime Stoppers at 1-888-277-8477 or call 911.

My research of the 911 call began by downloading a copy and using a free software program that enables you to slow down the recording.  I was amazed at the things I was picking up on that were not being reported on the sites displaying the transcriptions.  These errors could have been simply overlooked as so many people were trying to get the transcriptions out to the public in an effort to help in any way possible.  There have been numerous transcriptions publicized regarding the 911 call that Misty Croslin placed the night that Haleigh Cummings was reported missing.  While listening to this call myself I heard several things being said that, more often than not, were listed as “inaudible” or just left out completely.  There were also things that were transcribed as being heard on the recording which I, as well as many other people, do not hear.

One of the first things that caught my attention was at approximately 2:38 minutes into the call.  Clearly you can hear the 911 operator ask Misty for her name and phone number, then asking how to spell her last name.  Following that Misty, in my opinion, is saying “Stop…Ough, you’re hurting me, I just woke up.”  For whatever reason this was never reported on any of the news channels that I viewed playing the recording over and over or in any of the transcripts that I was reading, including legitimate news sites that had their own versions of the transcripts posted.

The transcripts that I read at various blogs were stating that at approximately 3:48 seconds into the call when the  operator has called back and is speaking with Ronald Cummings, father of precious Haleigh,  that Misty was saying “I don’t wanna…”.  Let me note that not all bloggers were stating this, just quite a few that I had stumbled upon.  Also, the transcriptions that I read posted at a national broadcast news station’s site featuring one of the hardest working journalists in the business, did not have this “I don’t wanna..” statement listed.

Upon learning the discrepancies I decide to do a transcription as to what I believe I am hearing.  As you review my transcription, please keep in mind that I can make mistakes as well.   The areas that I have highlighted with bold lettering indicate statements that I am hearing on this call that have not been previously reported in the transcriptions that I have read.  Again, let me reiterate, I am only giving you my interpretation of what I believe I am hearing on this recording and you are free to comment on anything you may hear differently or if you are able to understand any of the areas that I have listed as “inaudible”.

The following transcript has been transcribed using the 911 call recording that was released to the public.  You can find copies of the recording by doing a Google search for “Haleigh Cummings 911 Call”.

Censorship in the Bloggosphere

You know the saying “Oh what a tangled web we weave, when we conspire to deceive”? That is so true for so many of the forums and blogs that I have seen that choose to censor commentators that express an opposing opinion to the members and/or the moderators.

I began my interest in blogging by investigating or “sleuthing” the missing child case of Haleigh Cummings. I happened upon a great and, from all appearances, honest author and owner of a site that had dedicated a tremendous portion of their time and energy to finding this lovely child. Eventually I ventured further into the forums area of this site and became engrossed at some of the comments being posted. At first I was a little confused because it seemed to me that the members were just socializing and cutting up instead of debating the issue at hand, which was and still should be the events surrounding Haleigh Cummings’ disappearance.

After reading the forum for a few hours I decided to post a comment regarding the original 911 call placed following Haleigh’s disappearance. I had read the transcripts that were posted on various websites and listened to the 911 call over and over again. I even went so far as to download software that allowed me to slow down the recording, making it easier to interpret for myself. The publicized transcripts had so many “INAUDIBLE” areas that I was determined to listen closely (through headphones) to see if I could understand any of the “INAUDIBLE” statements on the call.

So I had a theory of sorts and wanted to post what I thought I heard on the 911 call to get more input as to details that I may have overlooked or in this case misinterpreted. In my post I included a link to the 911 call so that others could listen to what I had listened to. Immediately I started reading posts that stated I had an “agenda” and was trying to “force” my opinion on others. I was taken aback by the callousness and viciousness of their attacks. Then the name calling began. Of course it was not long before the moderator joined the thread and decided that my comments were meant to incite the members. I was totally confused and feeling rather unsure of what I should write next, if at all. I was under the impression based on the thread topic that this was a forum intended to share information to help find this missing child. Boy was I mistaken.

Contemplating the appropriate response, I carefully wrote my comment. My error was stating that some members were in support of a particular person involved in this case, however, I felt that I stated so in a sensitive manner. There were a few members who felt that my original comment was worthy of conversation but that was quickly dispelled with one swoop of the delete button by the infamous moderator. Unbelievable. Since my opinion varied from the majority of the people on the site, I was labeled as a villian to the cause, which by the way was sharing information to help in finding Haleigh Cummings. I in no way meant to offend but rather to discuss the issue in this atmosphere.

Following this experience it was quite a few days before I decided to post again. This time though I had gained a lot more knowledge of the forum and it’s reputation. I quickly wrote my comment then posted and deleted my account. Right before my very eyes it started again. The accusations that I was attacking the moderator were insane. My comment in no way, shape or form was an attack. There have been suspicions that the moderator holds several memberships and posts under various nicknames. I have no factual knowledge of that nor does anyone else, except possibly the owner of the site but it is strange and quite unsettling to witness the devotion there, not towards this beautiful little girl Haleigh, but to the moderator. I thought we were devoted to finding Haleigh. Finding the truth, no matter what that may be. Finding peace for a family in pain. Evidently that was not the case there.

The discouragement that I felt over this type of censorship then sparked a desire for me to write my own blog to express my opinions regarding this and other cases. I hope that you will join me in finding the truth about the disappearance of Haleigh Cummings.
